Jurgen Goyvaerts obtained his LL.M. degree at K.U.Leuven and Université Paris-I de la Sorbonne in 1996. Upon graduation he joined the Leuven Bar, working from the offices of Legrand & Partners (1996 - April 2000).
From April 2000 onwards, Jurgen worked at the Employment, Pensions & Benefits practice of the Brussels office of Caestecker & Partners (part of the Andersen Legal Network), which later merged with DLA Piper. During this period he also resided in the US (2004-05).
Jurgen joined Curia in April 2009 and became a partner of our firm in September 2010.
Whilst he was working, Jurgen took the master in social law at VUB (1999), graduating with a master paper on interruption and loss of pension rights in the private pensions sector. He took an additional certificate in the graduate education program on pensions law at K.U. Leuven in 2008.
Jurgen is lecturer in charge of international social law at the Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel and a lecturer in the graduate education program on pensions law at the K.U. Leuven. He is also a member of the Institute of Labour Law at K.U. Leuven.
Jurgen specialises in labour law and social security law, complemented with a thorough knowledge of income tax.
He advises and litigates on all types of employment, including international recruitment, commercial agency and self-employed status. He moreover has excellent credentials in advising on mergers and acquisitions, and has acquired additional expertise in private pensions. Jurgen's expertise in the latter sector exceeds advice on labour law, instead offering complete legal assistance in particular for private pensions offered by companies.
Considering his expertise in this field, he was appointed as a pension fund's compliance officer.
Jurgen's litigation talent in employment tribunals was recognised early on: in his first year of being called to the Bar, he reached the finals of the Vlaams Pleitjuweel.
